Inspired by painter Steve Keene I decided to make this series of paintings. First getting the assets ready.
Then... I begin. Forget about under drawing. :)
A little further
And then some.
Newbury street set up.
Result. 2 hour painting day.
Here's the first process shot for my coffee painting. I'm working at drawing directly with the paint, without an under drawing. I've been pursuing this tactic for a while now. I once had a professor(Dan Kelleher) question why we'd flesh out a complete under drawing, and then paint. That question stuck in my mind for a long time. I like the idea of each color brush stroke is in pursuit of the drawing too.
Also, when I see people paint digitally, I see them making their shapes with color, and not a grey scale image to later color. And...I digress. Here's the shot.
It's time to start posting. This is where I'll showcase my work. I'll also include more of my process.
Sure, the expression here might be a little grim, but this piece was more of an experiment with color. I liked how the green side of my face bled into the background. I also worked more with rendering it all with the flat side of my brush, rather than using fine lines.
